You may have noticed yesterday on my Instagram I didn't post a workout, because it was my scheduled hiit day and when I went to yoga at 6am they kicked my fuggin' BUTT! No, I had never done hiit yoga before yesterday. Let me recap.
There are so many water options out there, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed on the topic, so much to the point you may throw your hands up and say, screw it! Water is supposed to be good for you, I’m just gonna drink it. It wasn’t too long ago I was in the same mindset. Easily crippled and overwhelmed by the numerous amounts of “healthy” info out in the world, which all seemed to constantly be battling against each other. Unfortunately, that battle still continue today, but I have taken the stance to educate myself on nutrition through real, natural, foods, and pass that on to you, dear reader. Today, I am not going to get into all the different water options. As mentioned, it is seemingly overwhelming. I am simply going to share with you an option that you may want to avoid and the reasons behind it. That seems simple enough, right? In the midst of overwhelm due to multiple options, let’s take an option out!
You know those days where anxiety/stress just sneak up on you? That's what happened to me recently. In the midst of recognizing that my thoughts were so deep, dark, and plain untrue, I had this odd vision.
What is Food Freedom?
I've seen this term floating around a lot lately, though it was first brought to my ears through the Whole30 creator, Melissa Hartwig, and refined in my head through her book Food Freedom Forever. I cannot say it enough, food freedom is so much more than finding what works for your body, it gives you this sense of confidence and self-awareness that boosts your life in ways that you never even knew were possible! I know it sounds too good to be true, but it's this transformation, an unfolding, and I think everyone should try it. Only if you are ready though, you can't rush the process. So this article is for those who feel called to make a change, do something radical, and start living life differently.
"The words you use to describe your food and yourself have real power. Treating yourself like a child who needs to "be good" on their diet is misguided. What happens when a child misbehaves? They are punished. Food should never be associated with punishment. Imagining your diet as a jealous lover who will be critical and disapproving if you "cheat" is damaging. Feeling guilt and shame over your "infidelities" will never lead to true food freedom. Linking your food choices with your "success" or "failure" as a person is destructive. Who you are and your self worth has nothing to do with the potato chips or broccoli on your plate.
Diets Don't Work
These words were seriously music to my ears! Because, I was listening on Audible, of course. This is the foundation I have come to realize and build my life upon. Every single thing that we do is a choice.
It's As Easy as 1, 2, 3
The Food Freedom plan is the most simple, three step process you will ever need to use around your food choices again. It's a lifelong practice and I want to invite you to join the community of hundreds of thousands of us as we take our health into our own hands and explore this road less traveled.
You CAN do this!
In light of my deep passion around this topic I will be holding a webinar on Wednesday May 24th at 5pm (pst) speaking more in depth and offering some pretty awesome tools exclusive to this event, that will help you on your way down this path. I'll be discussing more on what Food Freedom is, why diets don't work, what exactly this three step process is, more on how this has the potential to change your life, and reassure you that you can indeed take this path. Click below to be in the know about all the webinar information, share it with friends or family, put the date on your calendar, and I will see you there friends!!
Upon picking up the Nourishing Traditions Cookbook by Sally Fallon I felt immediately that it would speak to my heart. The opening paragraph itself states: “In no period of our history as a nation have Americans been so concerned about the subject of diet and nutrition. Yet if we accept the premise that what we eat determines our health, then we must add the observation that in no period of our history as a nation have Americans eaten so poorly, a statement that the most cursory survey of current statistics can prove.” Even if it can be proved statistically, I still believe that if most people were questioned about the belief in their diet being correlated with their health, I think most people would agree. The big idea behind this book is to first give a background on how we have continued to stagger away from the diets and traditions of our ancestors’ ways of eating and how certain points in time, particularly the industrial revolution, have completely changed the way we eat and also the way we are being told to eat. This book then suggests that due to these “new” and untraditional ways of eating our health has been severely compromised. I particularly love the way the book breaks down each topic, chapter by chapter, making it more easy to read and digest. The author also goes on to intermix how we have been told to eat in our modern day with many other examples of studies and peoples from around the globe that are doing it differently. The biggest difference being that people who are eating locally and living off the earth as much as possible (though this dates back some, as there is little of that found in this day and age) seem to be in the highest health, all the way down to their facial and dental structures.
A little different from what I normally share, I definitely feel vulnerable putting this one out there, but, there it is. I wrote this poem awhile ago, when we were still getting flurries of snow, in winter 2016. I came across it recently when I was having a kind of harder day and it helped me to get my mind right and pick myself back up. Perhaps you'll find the same ❤
Here you'll find a little peek into my life.
